Paducah Tilghman advances in the playoffs after Marion County forfeits

11-0Tilghman's record this season

The advance to the second round without playing.

If you had Friday night circled for Tilghman football, here's the twist: the won't play. Marion County told Coach Thompson the Knights have to forfeit the Class 4A first-round game. That sends Tilghman to the second round and keeps the team perfect at 11-0.

Thompson feels for the Marion seniors who won't get one more game. His focus is getting his team healthy after a physical regular-season finale at Christian County.

  • Round: Class 4A first round, Marion County forfeits
  • Last regular-season game: at Christian County
  • Basketball season begins: Dec. 8

The break comes at a good time, because basketball is already calling. Seven players and Thompson are juggling preseason basketball practice with the playoffs. "That is a lot to ask for in a kid, but they are putting in the work to make sure they are prepared for it," Thompson said.

Baptist Health Paducah gets 185 patient repositioners donated by its foundation

If you or someone you love ends up in a bed at Baptist Health Paducah, the nurses have a new helper. The Baptist Health Foundation Paducah donated 185 Hercules Patient Repositioners, according to a news release. They attach to existing hospital beds.

A conveyor-like system moves a patient higher in bed with the push of a button. One caregiver can do a task that typically takes two or three staff members, the hospital said.

"My goal is to reduce the burden for the bedside staff," said Marilyn Riley, vice president and chief nursing officer at Baptist Health Paducah. She said nurses can spend more than an hour per shift manually repositioning patients.
